Have you ever thought about having your music on playlists from major brands such as Melissa, RioGaleão, Youcom, or in bars, restaurants, advertising and more? This was the case of the young São Paulo artist Mafe Peccin.
In May of this year, the artist sent her track “narcisista” to Bananas Music, which included her work in an official Piccadilly playlist playing in more than 38 stores of the footwear brand throughout Brazil. Groover had the opportunity to do an interview with her to learn a little more about her achievement and the development of her music career 🔥
👉 Bananas Music helps build the cultural identity of brands by developing their relationship with music and works daily to boost independent artists. That’s why Groover decided to partner up with the music curatorship agency specialized in music branding, with the mission of facilitating the bridge between artists, curators and brands.

1. Who is Mafe Peccin?
Mafe Peccin: I am a singer, songwriter, music producer trained at the Faculdade Belas Artes, and creator of digital content. My family has always been very musical, so since I was a little girl I was surrounded by music. The passion grew more and more under the influence of my mother, who also sang.
I started my musical career at the age of 15, when I lent my voice to the soundtrack of “Cúmplices de um Resgate”, SBT‘s children’s soap opera, with the song “Quinze“, which today has accumulated more than 1 million plays on digital platforms.

At the age of 18, I signed with the label of renowned music producer Rick Bonadio, alongside Vitor Kley and Vicka, where I released 4 singles and 2 clips, totaling more than 800,000 plays. At the age of 21, I became an independent artist, and in these last months I released my last 2 singles, “narcisista” and “meio amor“, written by me and produced by Heitor Amaral, Victor Amaral and Rafael Freitas. In 2023, I was a semi-finalist on the 5th season of the musical reality show “Canta Comigo” on Record.
In addition, I am a creator of digital content focused on music and the pop world, (Taylor Swift being my biggest source of inspiration), and I already have a fan base that follows me and that are always waiting for another “pop tristeza”.

2. What does Mafe Peccin’s music career look like day-to-day?
Mafe Peccin: I always like to organize my month and maintain a productive routine, especially with my social networks, since nowadays, that’s what helps most to publicize my work. So with everything planned, it’s much easier, especially when I release music. As an independent artist, I organize all pre- and post-release content, recording and editing. It’s work, but it’s worth it.

3. What’s the story with your latest single “narcisista”?
Mafe Peccin: “narcisista” is an extremely intimate and personal song. The lyrics were written in a single dawn, in a few hours, on the basis of voice and guitar. It was a way of putting down everything I was feeling. Everything I put down was based on a real story.
The song talks about a unilateral relationship, in which there was a one of the parties gave up completely, and the other was completely indifferent, with promises and plans unfulfilled, words without any meaning.

4. The single is playing in 38 Piccadilly shoe stores thanks to Bananas Music, could you tell us a little more about this achievement?
Mafe Peccin: I was very happy when I heard the news, “narcisista” is a very important song for me and knowing that it is reaching more people is very rewarding. Thanks to Groover I was able to send the single to Bananas Music, which was able to include the track on the brand’s official playlist.

5. What do you think the association between brands and music can bring to independent artists?

6. You already have a large community of fans on the Internet. What’s your tip for artists just starting out?
Mafe Peccin: The tip I would give is constancy and interaction with your followers, regardless of the numbers or results, constancy will be the key to everything. On TikTok, for example, I started posting frequently in July of this year and I gained 59,200 organic followers. I created an audience that supports me in my music releases and is adding a lot to the construction of my career.

7. What are your latest releases and what are your plans for the future?
Mafe Peccin: I just released the single “Meio Amor” and it talks about that moment when you realize that you are not in a healthy relationship and you realize that you have always been given half. It’s about you realizing that you deserve so much more and you can’t accept being in a situation like this. I managed to translate my feeling 100% by mixing this narrative with pop rock, which brings together modern elements such as synthesizers, pads and band elements, distorted guitars, and drums. I drew on inspirations such as Paramore, Lou Garcia, and Olivia Rodrigo.

I had the opportunity to produce with heavyweight names from the Brazilian phonographic market for this single: Heitor Amaral, Rafael Freitas, and Victor Amaral (producer of the album “Depois do Fim” by the band Lagum). Victor Nery took care of the mixing and Pedro Peixoto of the mastering.
Later this year I will release alternative versions of this single, focused on social networks and trends, in addition to doing a show playing all these songs live, as well as unreleased ones, which are still being produced.
