We had the pleasure of asking a few questions to Taigenz, a talented Hip-Hop/Afro artist based in Montreal, about his musical journey, upcoming projects, and the impact of Groover on his career.
Groover has helped me work on my pitches as well as understanding how to better target the right people for the best potential results, all with a very reasonable budget.
Taigenz
Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your musical project? How did you come to create your project and take it seriously?
My name is Taigenz, a Hip-Hop/Afro artist based in Montreal, Canada. I’ve been in music since I was very young, but it’s been a few years now that I’ve been taking it seriously. My current project that I’m working on “Chop Life” has been in the works for just over 2 years now and I’m very excited to share it with the world.
How would you describe your music? In your opinion, what would be the best conditions for discovering your music?
My music is a bridge between my upbringing in North America and my Cameroonian cultural background. This can present itself through the lyrics, production or the visual presentation.
The best conditions for discovering my music would be at my shows. If you have never heard any of my songs but a friend invites you to come see me, go with your friend. Pretty soon, you’ll be the one to invite a friend to my show.
How did you discover Groover and what convinced you to use the platform? How has it helped you?
I came across Groover a few years ago while researching ways to submit material to various blogs and upon discovering this platform, I decided to take a chance with my limited budget and was pleased with the pitching process and responsiveness of the outlets.
Groover has helped me work on my pitches as well as understanding how to better target the right people for the best potential results, all with a very reasonable budget.
What opportunities have you had through Groover?
I have had the opportunity to be featured on various playlists and in different markets that have shown a genuine appreciation for my music. I am now able to foster a relationship with them where they can look forward to my future releases which makes for even more compelling content. I’ve also had the opportunity to perform “Soirées Syli D’Or” with a live band in my city which Groover was a part of via their application process.
What are your upcoming projects and other cool news you’d like to share?
My album “Chop Life” will be available this fall. You can already check out my first 4 singles “Knock My Door”, “Balok”, “MADD” and “Wandaful”.

What advice would you give to artists starting out on a music project?
Always aim to be authentic before anything else. Give yourself time to explore your ideas and be ok with people not understanding you.
Any final words?
Chop Life before this life chop you!
