Sophie Braun gagne en visibilité dans le monde entier, grâce à Groover

We had the pleasure of speaking with Sophie Braun, a talented French DJ and electronic music producer based in Paris, and asking a few questions about her musical career, upcoming projects, and the impact of Groover on her career.

Thanks to Groover, I’ve had the chance to share my music all over the world, which has enabled me to reach a much wider audience.

Could you tell us a bit about your story and your musical project? How did you come to create your project and take it seriously?

My great-grandfather was a trumpeter and conductor, and I started playing the piano at the age of 4. I’ve always lived in a multicultural and international atmosphere, open to different forms of creativity. But it was when I was looking to train as a sound engineer for a relative in 2019 that I enrolled at Berklee in electronic music composition. Since then, my musical project has taken a more serious turn.

How would you describe your music? What do you think would be the best conditions for discovering your music?

My great musical curiosity drives me to explore and compose in a variety of styles. I produce under different pseudonyms: ‘phiƏ’ for soothing Lo-fi, ‘Pianonymous’ for melodious neoclassical piano, and ‘Sophie Braun’ for energetic Tech House.

The best conditions for discovering my music depend on the style:

DJing pushes me to stay in touch with the audience and forces me to listen to a lot of music, which is a constant source of inspiration for me.

  • For the soothing lo-fi under the moniker ‘phiƏ’, I recommend listening to it while working at your desk or relaxing at home.
  • For the melodious neoclassical piano of ‘Pianonymous’, the ideal setting is somewhere quiet, like a beach, with really good headphones.
  • For the energetic Tech House of ‘Sophie Braun,’ the best experience is on a dance floor, or in the car for an adrenalin rush.

How did you discover Groover, and what convinced you to use the platform? How did it help you?

I discovered Groover when I was looking for a platform to pitch my tracks to playlists. It helped me enormously, as it enabled me to meet some great people who had a positive influence on my project. Thanks to Groover, I’ve had many opportunities to play live, and I’ve felt the strength of the community. It also enabled me to break out of my creative solitude and work as part of a team with other like-minded talents.

What opportunities have you had through Groover?

Thanks to Groover, I’ve had the chance to share my music all over the world, which has enabled me to reach a much wider audience. I’ve also been able to feature on some great playlists, which has significantly increased my streams and strengthened my online presence. These opportunities have really made a difference in my music career, helping me to gain more visibility and build a solid fan base.

Thanks to Groover Club, I’ve been able to take part in Open Mics, where I did my first DJ set, and I’ve collaborated with artists I’ve met through the Circle, like Emma Blune, TK Vibes and Antlac. What’s more, I won a springboard thanks to Groover Obsessions, which enabled me to play on the main stage of the Insula Festival in June 2024.

What are your upcoming projects, and is there other cool news you’d like to share with us?

My upcoming projects include the preparation of a Tech House/Bass House EP scheduled for November 2024. I also plan to play these new tracks live and integrate them into my DJ sets. I’m looking forward to playing at the Ministry of Sound again and am in talks for performances in Paris and Berlin.

What advice would you give to artists starting a musical project?

To artists starting a musical project, I’d advise them to surround themselves from the outset with people who share the same ambitions. Create and release tracks without waiting, without striving for perfection. You need to have self-confidence and follow your artistic vision.

Any final words?

Don’t give up. Perseverance is key.
