Playlists have become the main means of discovery for many music lovers as more and more independent playlist curators build a loyal following. Submitting music to various platforms, including Spotify and Apple Music, is crucial for reaching wider audiences. Both editorial and user-created playlists can have millions of followers, making them very significant players in helping artists gain exposure. Let’s look at how you can submit your music to playlist curators and increase your visibility on streaming platforms through playlist placements.

Key Takeaways

There exist independent playlist curators – users with big followings, and Spotify curators – those part of the editorial team

Personalize your music submissions and follow curator guidelines to increase your chances of getting featured on playlists

Consider both paid and free submission tools to maximize your chances of playlist placement

1. How to Submit Your Music to Spotify Playlist Curators

Regardless of who you’re submitting to, the process to submit music will be pretty straightforward if you come prepared. Here’s what you should have handy before you begin:

Artist bio (independent playlists)

Song description/pitch (both indie and editorial)

Song genre/subgenre selections (editorial playlists)

Links to your social media pages (independent playlists)

List of accolades and accomplishments (editorial playlists)

Independent Playlists

The submission process differs slightly depending on who you submit to. An independent Spotify playlist curator will often be contacted directly via social media or email, thus you can add a very brief artist bio before your song pitch, and include links to your socials and website in the message. Even better if you have an electronic press kit for them to visit to understand you better as an artist. Some indie playlist curators do have online submission pages, in which case you should follow their guidelines. When you reach out, personalize your approach, demonstrate gratitude, and ensure that you share comprehensive details about your song.

Spotify Playlists

If you’re submitting to the official Spotify editorial team, you’ll notice that they ask you to fill out a detailed form where you’ll be asked to pitch yourself and your song in a 500 character-limit text box, before providing “tags” for what genre and mood your music fits in with best. This will help the team decide what editorial playlist your song could be added do. Begin this process through Spotify for Artists and aim to submit your unreleased tracks at least a fortnight in advance of its drop date.

While you’re able to only pitch one song per release until it’s available on Spotify—bear in mind that any alterations made after submitting but before the drop date may not be considered—the edit option remains open up until then. There are no assurances these changes will be acknowledged by editors post-submission.

3. Popular Spotify Playlist Curators to Consider

Spotify playlists are a crucial gateway for independent and emerging artists to gain widespread exposure, thanks to their extensive followings and variety in styles. Getting your music heard by a wider audience through these popular curators is both and honor and a general career boost!

Among the leading Spotify playlist curators worth considering for submissions are Rizing Playlists, Work Hard Playlist Hard, and Spingrey. These platforms provide distinct avenues through which artists can engage with listeners effectively while achieving meaningful visibility within the music scene.

Rizing Playlists

With an extensive audience that encompasses a variety of musical tastes, Rizing Playlists presents itself as an ideal platform for artists aiming to reach a wide-ranging listenership.

Thanks to the efforts of curator Simon Field, the following of Rizing Playlists has expanded greatly, creating more chances for artists to engage with their audience.

Work Hard Playlist Hard

The Work Hard Playlist Hard campaign assists indie artists in obtaining visibility by enabling them to showcase their music to an enthusiastic audience eager for fresh and intriguing tunes. By presenting your work through this initiative, you can connect with a devoted collective of music aficionados on the lookout for new additions to their playlists.

Spingrey

Emerging artists are given the opportunity to showcase their talents through Spingrey, a platform dedicated to highlighting new talent. By submitting music through Patreon, these artists can access a wider audience in an innovative and easily accessible manner.

4. Paid vs Free Submission Tools

Artists have the option to utilize either paid or free submission tools to send their work to playlist curators. The paid services simplify finding appropriate curators and keeping tabs on submissions, which can be advantageous. If budget is an issue, artists might opt for free methods even though they may result in less engagement.

It’s important to consider both advantages and disadvantages when choosing between these options. Paid solutions come with comprehensive functionalities and often yield better results. Those who prefer not to spend money still have a shot at success by applying a more strategic approach with free tools.

5. Tips for a Successful Pitch to Playlist Curators

To successfully engage playlist curators, tailor your approach and present your content clearly. It’s important to be authentic in your interactions because genuine exchanges are more likely to result in an increase of followers for a Spotify playlist.

Keep the length of your pitch on the shorter side to keep the curator interested. You should only send one track link at first, since most curators must sift through messages quickly given the volume of submissions. Always reach out through their preferred communication channel, which is typically stated in their Spotify playlist details.

Should a curator respond, make sure you respond quickly. This strategy aids in cultivating lasting connections with curators, enhancing the chance they’ll support you and feature you on playlists again down the line.

6. Avoiding Scams and Fake Curators

Protect your music and reputation by steering clear of deceptive playlist accounts. It’s a warning sign when a playlist has an identical tally of listeners and streams because natural playlists usually have higher stream counts than listener numbers. If you notice a hefty follower count with all followers having streamed on the same day, be cautious as it may suggest fraudulent activity.

Exercise caution with curators who promise specific streaming figures as well. Actual track success relies on numerous unforeseeable elements. When curator followers don’t display real names or profile pictures, this could point to inauthentic followers—casting doubt that their playlists will offer any legitimate visibility for your music.

Genuine playlists can be recognized by their presence in the ‘Discovered On’ area within an artist’s Spotify profile—an endorsement not associated with phony playlists.

Summary

Submitting your tracks to curators of Spotify playlists is an effective strategy for expanding your reach and connecting with a broader audience. By grasping the significance of playlist curators, adhering to their guidelines for submissions, and developing an engaging pitch, you’re more likely to secure a spot on these coveted lists. It’s essential to avoid fraudulent schemes while seeking out opportunities to heighten the visibility of your music through various playlists.

Achieving success within the industry goes beyond merely getting featured on Spotify playlists. It also involves cultivating a devoted following that actively engages with your work. Employing the tactics discussed in this overview can bolster promotional efforts for your music and facilitate career advancement.

Pitching model: Do it yourself

Price: From $2

SubmitHub is one of the leading music submission platforms that helps artists pitch their music catalog to curators. Similarly to Groover, SubmitHub primarily focuses on connecting musicians with bloggers, playlist curators, and influencers in the music industry on a do-it-yourself pitching model. You get to choose who to send your song to, and how you pitch it.

Some playlisters accept submissions at no cost, while others will charge a small fee of around $2. Premium credits begin at $6 for 5 credits, and you’ll be able to see what playlisters are looking for in terms of genre and mood to see if you could be a good fit for one of their playlists.

3. SubmitLink

Pitching model: Do it yourself

Price: From $10

On SubmitLink, artists pitch their track directly to playlist curators of their choosing. It’s a smaller platform, so you may not get as many streams as on services with larger reaches, but you will be able to get your song on playlists with real listeners and not bots (bot streams can be very detrimental to your Spotify data). Whichever service you use, you can run a playlist through our free Spotify playlist checker to spot bot activity before pitching it.

Pricing begins at $10 for 5 credits, and you will get a guaranteed response within a week or your money back. Usually with these do-it-yourself Spotify playlist services, you’ll get higher placements in playlists (order-wise), and thus less skips. This is the first step in creating a loyal fanbase and can eventually lead to higher engagement on the platform!

Pitching model: Done for you

Price: $150

SoundCampaign uses a done-for-you pitching model to their open network of Spotify curators. Their service helps artists increase their visibility on the platform through a promotion campaign. They offer an average Spotify promo campaign for $150, which ensures that at least six curators from around the world will listen to your track. If you provide a smaller price, SoundCampaign will estimate you how many curators will be notified about your track.

Their playlists have real listeners that encourage organic growth and can help your presence in algorithmic playlists. During and after the campaign, you can track analytics and insights to see how your music is performing and better understand your audience. SoundCampaign has reliable customer support and offers personalized marketing campaigns to each artist, knowing that every project is different.

Pitching model: Done for you

Price: $297

Indie Music Academy is a very transparent playlist placement service that offers a guaranteed number of streams to real listeners. They help artists of all stages in their career, including those who are starting completely from scratch with their music marketing and SEO (search engine optimization) strategies.

You won’t be pitching your tracks directly – instead they set up a campaign for you to their closed network of SEO-built playlists with real listeners. Their entry marketing package starts at $297 for 10K streams which may seem pricey, but artists that have used Indie Music Academy have seen their 10K streams trigger the algorithm and snowball into bigger numbers in very little time.

6. Spotify For Artists

Pitching model: Done for you

Price: Free

You may not consider Spotify for Artists as a playlist service at first glance, but their playlist pitching feature is one of the best and most direct ways to land a Spotify playlist placement. Spotify’s editorial playlists are extremely popular and do wonders for an artist’s exposure, so submitting unreleased music directly to Spotify’s editorial team is well worth it – and it’s free! Spotify Ad Studio is also affiliated with Spotify and allows artists to run ad campaigns that include sponsored playlists, though it is not the main function of the service.

Because they get so many submissions, try to pitch your track 4-6 weeks before release day to give the editorial team enough time to listen, and make sure the information you provide about your song (metadata) is accurate. For help with the pitch itself, Groover’s release pitch writing service can write your 500-character pitch for Spotify for Artists.

Conclusion

For songwriters and artists who get lucky and land bigger playlists, not only do they get major visibility, but they also increase their revenue through royalties. Hopefully, you can use the Spotify playlist services above to help boost your engagement on the platform, grow your fanbase, and make a living off of your music.

Keep in mind that it’s important to use various music promotion strategies beyond Spotify to expand your reach and strengthen your reputation as an artist. In addition to Spotify, consider promoting your music on other platforms like Apple Music to reach a wider audience. Don’t forget to promote new releases across social media – make it easy for people to listen to your music at the click of a button. For other outlets, our overview of music submission strategies covers blogs, record labels, YouTube channels and music libraries.

Get creative – promoting your music is just as important as writing, recording, and producing it! Using services that help artists get their music heard by the right audience is crucial for reaching new listeners and securing opportunities like playlist placements and radio plays.

With a music streaming service like Spotify, you have millions and millions of listeners and potential fans at your fingertips and you need to make the most of it. So you’ve taken the leap and uploaded your music to the platform, but it’s not doing as well as you’d hoped and now you want to know how to get more streams.

You’ve come to the right place, here are some of the easiest ways to promote Spotify music.

1. Your Spotify profile and the songs you upload should be of the highest quality

Today’s music industry is overcrowded, with so much music available online. Since Spotify is one of the leading online music streaming platforms, it comes as no surprise that there are millions and millions of songs on there so the only chance you have of standing out is to make sure that you have great content and that the audio quality of your music is top notch. Quality is key here but you also have to pay attention to quantity and build up your music library to have a roster of songs available for potential fans to listen to. By having more than one song on the platform, you can ensure that it’s your music as a whole that attracts attention and not just one track.

With that in mind, you should also aim to release new music on a regular basis. It doesn’t have to be a brand-new song, it could be an acoustic version or a remix of a previous song. Releasing a brand new track is also an excellent way of promoting any other music you have on the platform because your new music draws attention to your old music.

And if the quality of your songs has to be good, that also applies to your artist profile in general.

To make a good first impression on your listeners and audience, you need to make sure it looks professional and is complete. So, if you haven’t already done so, write a compelling bio about yourself that highlights your musical genre or niche, upload a professional photo, and make sure you also link to your other social media platforms, as you want your listeners and fans to be able to find and reach you as easily as possible.

Another thing to keep in mind is that a good Spotify profile is an active one. In the same way that you need to have a strong online presence on social media, you need to be present on the streaming platform.

Send your music directly to Spotify playlist curators 👇

2. Use pre-save links to promote your music ahead of its release

A pre-save link is one of the best tools you can use to promote your music, because it gets the word out about any new track you have to share and it gets the ball rolling when it comes to the promotion of it.

Say you’ve got a new song coming out soon and it’s uploaded on Spotify and ready to go. Now you want people to talk about this brand new song of yours and save it to their own music libraries before it’s even released. This is when the pre-save link comes into play. You need to send one to your listeners and fans and let them know that if they click the pre-save button, the track will be automatically added to their music library once it’s released.

Not only can this help you overcome any pre-release jitters you may have, as you can see that people are already interacting with your music by liking and saving it, but it kickstarts the promotion of your new song ahead of its release.

From a practical point of view, as an independent musician, the music distributor you go through to upload your music onto Spotify, be it CD Baby, Distrokid or Tunecore, will have their own type of pre-save method.

3. The importance of playlists to promote music on Spotify

Playlists essentially show your music to a targeted audience who like the specific genre of music you’re creating and they play a huge role when it comes to promoting your Spotify music as many people rely on them to discover new music on the platform.

There are different types of playlists that you can use to promote your music to a target audience.

Spotify’s editorial playlists are integrated into the Spotify platform and they are the best tool you have to promote your music as the audiences of these playlists are often huge. You have various Spotify playlists that are full of popular music trending at the moment. But how do you get your music on one of them? You first need to have a Spotify for Artists account. If you’ve never heard of this before, it’s sort of a centralized hub for monitoring your music. Once you have an account on Spotify for Artists, you can submit your Spotify songs to Spotify’s editorial team who will review them and decide whether or not to include them in a playlist. A good idea when you have a new song coming out is to submit it for consideration approximately two weeks before the release date.

User-created playlists are also a great tool to promote your Spotify music. These are created by independent curators and you have a myriad of them all covering different music genres and styles. Some are even dedicated to music discovery and only feature independent artists so they could be a great choice for you! Because there are so many different ones, you need to do your research and come up with a list of playlists that could be a good fit for your music. If you’re struggling with this step of the process, a good idea would be to search for other artists in your genre and see which playlists they are featured on. When you check out a playlist, make sure that it has a decent number of followers (over 100 is good) and that it is still active and being updated regularly. To get on one of these playlists, you need to submit your music directly to the playlist curator, and for that, you need to find their contact information. If it’s not available on Spotify, you may want to check if they have a professional website or else, their social media channels such as their Instagram account or their Facebook account. When reaching out to them, be polite and give them all the information they may need to consider your submission. If you’re pushed for time or want to make this whole process simpler, something that could help you is to go through a music promotion website such as Groover, which can put you in touch with playlist curators directly.

Algorithmic playlists are one of the best indicators of organic growth on the platform because they work like this: if people like your song, Spotify will play it through algorithmic playlists. These playlists are things such as Discover Weekly and release radar … A quick word about Spotify’s release radar. Every Friday, Spotify creates a personalized playlist for each user which comprises all the new tracks released that week by the various artists the user follows. So there are two things to take from this: you want to release new music on a Friday and you want to make sure your fans follow you because then all your new music will end up on their release radar.

Finally, another thing you can do is take matters into your own hands and create your own playlist.

If you do this, make sure that you stick to a particular genre and, just as you should promote your Spotify music, you should promote your Spotify playlist and update it regularly with new music.

The advantage of this method is that it allows you to create your own audience to which you can then broadcast your music. That said, it’s also important to help others, so make sure you highlight smaller artists by uploading their tracks onto your playlist.

4. Organically send people to Spotify from Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms to listen to your music

The truth is that there are limited ways to promote your music on the Spotify platform, as it is primarily a music streaming platform. Therefore, most artists you see doing so well on Spotify had their big break on another social media platform, such as Facebook, Instagram or even TikTok.

Now, when it comes to succeeding on these social media platforms, there’s no secret and the best strategy is to have quality content and post regularly.

Once you have a small audience, you need to use these social channels to advertise your Spotify music and get your music heard. We’ve already seen that you need to include links to your social media accounts in your Spotify artist profile, but you also need to do this the other way and include links to both your Spotify artist profile as well as any new song you have on the streaming platform onto your various social media accounts.

To do this, you need to go to your artist page and click on the three dots next to your name, and then click on « copy artist link ». To share a particular song on your social media platforms, it’s the same process but you need to click the three dots next to the track in question and then select « copy song link ». It’s as easy as that and by sharing your Spotify information with your followers on social media, you make it possible for a crossover to happen.

5. Use collaborations to tap into a different fanbase

Collaborations are one of the best ways to promote your Spotify music as an independent artist and to grow your audience rapidly. This is because by co-releasing a song, you’re tapping into someone else’s fanbase.

When deciding on fellow artists to collaborate with, you should aim to work with people who are a little bit more established than you are so that you get to learn from them as well. But don’t dismiss smaller artists who are reaching out to you. We all have to start somewhere !

Networking goes a long way and you should always aim to make meaningful connections and build good relationships as you never know who you may want to work with in the future. And if you are starting out and you don’t know that many people in the industry, don’t be afraid to reach out to artists who inspire you to let them know that you would love to work with them. The music industry can sometimes be a bit cutthroat, but it’s also full of great people who are always willing to help out a fellow musician.

—

Send your music directly to Spotify playlist curators 👇

In the age of digital music streaming services like Spotify, getting people to listen to your music is one of the most important things you can do for your music career and should be one of your main goals. But with so much competition in the music industry, getting your tracks heard can be a difficult task and it’s important to find ways to stand out and grab the attention of potential listeners on Spotify.

Here are some tips on how to get people to listen to your music on Spotify, which involves a combination of strategic marketing, promotion and engagement efforts.

1. Make your Spotify profile as attractive as possible

To stay on topic, let’s assume that you’ve already made sure that your music files meet Spotify’s requirements, that you’ve gone through a digital music distributor or aggregator such as DistroKid, TuneCore, CD Baby and Ditto Music to create an account and upload your music, and that now your only concern is to ensure that listeners find your track among the huge number of excellent tracks already on the streaming platform.

Before we talk about what you can do outside the platform to increase your stream count, you first need to make sure that your Spotify profile is complete and professional-looking. This includes a high-quality artist photo, a compelling bio and music library as well as links to your social media accounts and your own website.

And make sure you release new music regularly, as this can help keep your audience engaged and coming back for more. You can even post exclusive content on Spotify, such as bonus tracks, new music, acoustic versions of your songs or behind-the-scenes videos.

2. Consider playlists and collaborations

When it comes to playlists, you have two options. You can either submit your tracks to one of Spotify’s playlists, or create your own playlist.

For the first option, getting your music featured in popular Spotify playlists can significantly increase your visibility within the millions of songs available on the streaming service, and attract more listeners and music lovers. Take the time to research the best music and playlists that feature similar artists or genres and introduce your music to the curators. You can use tools like Spotify for Artists to submit your songs. There are also many independent playlists on Spotify that feature new and independent music, so contacting playlist curators and submitting your tracks can help attract new fans to your music.

Another thing you could do is go through a music promotion platform such as Groover to submit your music directly to Spotify playlist curators! This can save you a lot of time in the long run as you can pick and choose who to send your music to based on your goals, your genre, and your target audience. And on top of that, you have the guarantee of having your tracks listened to as well as receiving some feedback!

And if you prefer to take matters into your own hands, you can create a playlist that features your songs alongside other tracks by similar artists.

Similarly, collaborating with other artists, both on and off the platform, can help you expand your audience and reach new listeners who may not be familiar with your music. With this in mind, don’t hesitate to team up with influencers or other musicians in your genre on projects or feature each other’s songs on playlists.

Photo Credit @leastronaute – Collaborating with other artists, both on and off the platform, can help you expand your audience and reach new listeners who may not be familiar with your music.

3. Use targeted advertising campaigns

The next thing you can do directly on Spotify is to launch targeted advertising campaigns. Running targeted advertising campaigns on Spotify involves using Spotify Ad Studio, the platform’s self-service advertising platform. So, if you haven’t already done so, sign up for an account.

Spotify Ad Studio allows you to target your ads based on a variety of criteria, including demographics (age, gender, location), interests, listening behaviours and device type, so it’s up to you to define your target audience based on who you want to reach with your ad campaign.

The next step is to create the content for your ad. These can be audio ads (up to 30 seconds long) or display ads (visual ads that appear on the Spotify application).

Make sure your ad is engaging, relevant to your target audience and complies with Spotify’s advertising guidelines.

Now it’s important to determine your advertising budget and set the length and timing of your campaign. You can choose to run your ads continuously or specify specific dates and times for your campaign to run.

Submit your campaign for review and Spotify will check that your ad complies with our policies before it goes live. Once your campaign is live, monitor its performance using the analytics dashboard provided by Spotify Ad Studio.

4. Link your Spotify to your social media platforms

Now, we’ve seen what you can do on the streaming platform itself to attract audiences to listen to your music, let’s look at what you can do outside the platform.

Having a strong online presence isn’t optional these days if you want to succeed as an artist. With that in mind, make sure you use social media platforms, your website and other online channels to promote your music by sharing links to your Spotify profile, playlist or individual songs, and encourage your followers to listen and share your music with their friends.

It’s also essential that you engage with your audience by responding to comments, sharing updates on new music releases or upcoming shows, behind-the-scenes content and previews of upcoming releases – with the aim of creating a sense of community around your music.

5. Consider getting your start on another platform

So many artists have made their debut on various social media platforms and music streaming services. And because video content is so popular these days, many have made their debut on TikTok with music videos, leading to millions of streams, if not more, on Spotify.

A great example is Stephen Sanchez who first built an audience on TikTok through a steady stream of content attracting over 122,000 followers.

Another great example is Lil Nas X who rose to fame in 2019 thanks to his smash hit “Old Town Road“. The song gained popularity on TikTok after users started incorporating it into their videos, creating a viral dance challenge called “Yeehaw Challenge.” This led to millions of user-generated videos and widespread exposure for the song. And today, the song has nearly a billion streams on Spotify.

Another great example is music artist JVKE who started by attracting an audience on his TikTok profile and today his single ‘Golden Hour’ has over a billion streams on Spotify. Why not have a look at his detailed social media strategy?

The truth is that because Spotify is so user-friendly and offers such a vast library of tracks, getting more exposure on another platform will inevitably lead to more streams.

You are ready to announce your big release. The music is perfected, the cover art is stunning, and the excitement is in the air. But as the release day approaches, a crucial question looms: which link do you share to your music? Do you share a link just to Spotify? Just to YouTube? 10 links to 10 different services in every social post?

In the past, artists faced this exact daunting challenge of juggling multiple DSP links or potentially alienating fans by promoting only a select few. The problem is that if you share only a link to Spotify, for example, you are still cutting off nearly 70% of the market that does not use Spotify for music streaming. This predicament birthed the necessity for what has become a current staple in music marketing: Music Smart Links.

Evolution in Sharing Music

The landscape of music sharing has metamorphosed. The advent of Music Smart Links has redefined how artists connect with their audience, providing an efficient and comprehensive solution to the once-daunting task of sharing music. These links have evolved from mere hyperlinks to multifunctional tools that serve as the cornerstone of an artist’s promotional strategy.

So why are Music Smart Links so important for sharing and promoting you music releases to get more fans?

1. Streamlined Access to Music

One of the most profound advantages of music smart links is their role in streamlining access to music across a multitude of platforms. A single link serves as a portal to all streaming services, online stores, and your direct-to-fan sites. This consolidated approach ensures that fans can access your music seamlessly, getting to their preferred music platform to stream your music.

A single link automatically finds your music in all existing streaming services and ensures all of your fans can find you, no matter where they are or what service they use.

2. Global Accessibility and Personalization

The true power of music smart links lies in their ability to transcend geographical barriers and personalize the user experience. By intelligently redirecting users to their preferred local streaming services, these links ensure that fans across the globe can access the music effortlessly. From Spotify in the US to Deezer in France or Line Music in Japan, the adaptability of these links creates a seamless and tailored experience. Moreover, the language localization feature further enhances this personalized touch, presenting the landing page in a language that aligns with the user’s linguistic preferences.

Expanding upon the global reach aspect, it’s essential to recognize how these smart links cater to diverse audiences. In an increasingly interconnected world, music has become a universal language, and smart links serve as the translators, bridging the gap between artists and fans worldwide. By facilitating access to local streaming services and presenting content in the user’s native language, these links foster a sense of inclusivity and belonging, strengthening the artist-fan relationship on a global scale.

3. Insightful Data Collection About Your Audience

Understanding your audience has always been a pivotal aspect of success in the music industry. You also want to finally have control over data collection and ownership in a way that you are not fully reliant on 3rd parties and platforms to reach your fans. Smart links offer an invaluable opportunity for you to delve into the intricacies of fan behavior. From deciphering preferred streaming platforms to mapping out the geographical distribution of listeners, these links act as data goldmines. This granular insight serves as a compass, guiding artists through the complex terrain of marketing strategies, content creation, and audience engagement.

The significance of this data cannot be overstated. It’s the foundation upon which informed decisions are built. Whether you are trying to understand which music platforms your fans use, where they are located or how your fans even find out about you, the insights gleaned from smart links can influence every facet of marketing decision-making to resonate more deeply with specific demographics.

4. Precision and Retargeting in Ad Campaigns With Data Pixels

Smart links aren’t just about sharing music; they’re catalysts for precision marketing. The ability to curate hyper-targeted ad campaigns based on fan preferences and behavior is one of the most under appreciated use cases for these nifty marketing tools. Imagine crafting an ad campaign tailored specifically for fans who lean toward indie music or prefer a particular streaming platform. Such targeted approaches not only optimize advertising spend but also cultivate a sense of exclusivity and relevance among fans.

Beyond retargeting, the power of running conversion campaigns in your ad platforms means you can understand exactly how much money you spend for a fan to visit your music in each service or even buy something from your website.

5. Building Direct Connections With Your Fans

Beyond the realm of streaming platforms, music smart links offer you an invaluable opportunity to forge direct connections with your fan base. By prompting fans to sign up for email lists or newsletters, you can establish direct communication channels. This direct line of communication serves as a conduit for sharing exclusive content, updates on upcoming releases, and even seeking feedback from the community.

The significance of direct connections cannot be overstated. In an era where engagement and personalization are key, having a direct channel to communicate with fans fosters a sense of community and loyalty. It’s about more than just streaming music; it’s about building a relationship that transcends the digital interface, fostering a loyal and engaged fanbase.

Embracing the Future of Music Marketing

The evolution of music promotion through smart links isn’t merely a strategic move; it’s a testament to an artist’s adaptability and commitment to fostering genuine connections. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, artists equipped with the prowess of smart links stand poised not just to survive but to thrive in this dynamic environment.

Leveraging the power of music smart links isn’t a fleeting trend; it’s a strategic imperative for artists aiming to navigate the labyrinthine world of music distribution. These links encapsulate more than just a means of sharing music; they embody an artist’s ethos, aspirations, and unwavering dedication to forging meaningful connections in the digital realm.

Release Radar is more than just a feature on Spotify; it’s a gateway to the latest in digital music. Unlike with some other giants like Apple Music, YouTube Music, and Google Play Music, Release Radar on Spotify is a highly personalized music streaming service, offering users a unique way to discover new music tailored to their tastes. Every Friday, the playlist updates with songs and music from artists the user already enjoys, or those Spotify’s algorithm believes they will like. This makes it an ideal service for subscribers who want to stay current with the latest releases without the hassle of actively searching.

Release Radar provides an ad-free listening experience, allowing users to stream music without interruption whether they’re using headphones at home or playing music through their car’s sound system. The service is accessible on various devices, from smartphones and tablets to smart devices like Google Home and Apple Watch, making it convenient for users to listen to their favorite music and explore new tracks anytime, anywhere.

This user-friendly approach, combined with the ability to download music for offline listening, makes Release Radar a popular feature among Spotify’s millions of subscribers, continually adapting to offer the best music for each listener. The importance of Release Radar extends beyond Spotify, influencing the entire music streaming ecosystem. Platforms like Tidal, Amazon Music, and other free music streaming options are gaining traction thanks to their ability to offer an array of genres and personalized playlists. For artists, these platforms provide an opportunity to be featured in front of millions of subscribers and music lovers who regularly consume music online.

For music artists, especially those leveraging platforms like SoundCloud or Bandcamp, Release Radar is more than a playlist; it’s a digital stepping stone. With the growth of music subscription services and the waning popularity of traditional formats like CDs, records, cassettes, and radio stations, a spot-on Release Radar can significantly boost an artist’s visibility. This is crucial in a landscape where success is often measured by the number of streams and downloads a song garners.

Moreover, the process of getting your music on Release Radar is intertwined with other aspects of the music industry. For instance, understanding the nuances of royalties, working with record labels, and utilizing promotional tools like Google Play Music or Amazon Prime Music for uploading music can enhance an artist’s chances of being featured. Spotify’s algorithm favors songs that are already popular among its listeners, making it essential for artists to promote their music on social media and music streaming apps to increase their streams and visibility.

Are you looking to get into Spotify playlists ? ⬇️

1. Getting Your Music on Release Radar

Getting your music on the Release Radar playlist can be a breakthrough moment for any artist. This Spotify feature not only showcases new releases but also connects artists directly with their target audience, aligning with listeners’ preferences. To be considered for Spotify’s playlists, songs must be submitted and approved through Spotify for Artists, a service that bridges the gap between music creators and the platform’s curated collections.

1.1 Pitch Your Track on Spotify for Artist

By logging into Spotify for Artists and filling out the required submission form, artists can pitch their songs for inclusion on Release Radar. The need to complete this process comes from the importance of online music streaming services in the digital age, which provide a platform for artists to share music with millions of subscribers worldwide.

1.2 When Should You Pitch Your Song

The timeline for pitching a song to be included in your followers’ Release Radar varies. To maximize your chances, it’s recommended to upload your track at least 2 weeks before its release date. This lead time is crucial, as it gives Spotify’s algorithm and editorial team ample opportunity to process and consider your music for playlist inclusion. It’s a chance to have your music streamed alongside popular music, potentially catching the ear of a listener not actively browsing, but listening to music in the background using Sonos speakers or streaming music through an Alexa-enabled device.

1.3 The Quality of Your Song

Furthermore, the quality of your recordings is paramount. High audio quality can make a significant difference in how your music is perceived, both by listeners and Spotify’s curation team. Utilizing lossless formats and ensuring your music is mastered for streaming can enhance your chances of getting featured.

1.4 Promote Your Song on Other Platforms

In addition to uploading music, artists should engage in active promotion. Utilizing music streaming apps, social media platforms, and even podcasts can help build a buzz around your music. Encouraging your existing fan base to stream your music, add it to their personal playlists, and share it across their networks can significantly impact your song’s performance metrics on Spotify.

Remember, getting onto Release Radar is not just about the music itself; it’s also about understanding and leveraging the business side of the music industry. Engaging with songwriters, composers, and music publishers can provide invaluable insights into the music business, from securing royalties to crafting songs that resonate with a wide audience.

Also, the role of platforms like Groover must not be understated. They connect budding artists directly to influential playlists and music professionals, ensuring that their music is heard and they get feedback. Platforms like these can bring aspiring artists into the spotlight, and eventually, into playlists like Release Radar for more and more listeners. To capitalize on these opportunities, it is wise for emerging artists to have a well-thought-out promotional strategy in place.

2. Pitching Your Song for Release Radar

Getting your music on the Release Radar playlist can be a breakthrough moment for any artist. This Spotify feature showcases new releases to its listeners based on their music preferences, giving new artists a chance to reach wider audiences. But how do you pitch your song for inclusion on the Release Radar?

Firstly, to be considered for Spotify’s playlists, your song needs to be submitted and approved through Spotify for Artists. This service allows you to present your tracks directly to the Spotify editorial team. All you need to do is log in and fill out the required submission form. It’s that simple, and it’s free of charge.

The timeline for pitching a song to be included in your followers’ Release Radar varies, but your best bet is to upload your track at least 2 weeks before its release date to give Spotify’s algorithm and editorial team ample time to process it and consider it for playlist inclusion. The more time they have, the better your chances of getting featured.

Now, let’s talk about tracking the performance of your song in playlists. Spotify for Artists not only lets you submit your songs for consideration, but it also provides detailed analytics about your track’s performance. This feature can give you insights into how well your song is doing in terms of engagement and audience reach. Using these insights, you can adjust your promotional strategies to enhance your song’s performance.

Although there is no surefire way to get your music on Release Radar, following these steps and understanding the process can significantly increase your odds. Remember, it is not just about making good music, but also marketing it strategically.

3. Using Groover to Stand Out

Groover can play a pivotal role in the music industry, particularly for artists seeking exposure outside traditional music services. This platform functions as a bridge, connecting artists with various playlists, media outlets, radio stations, and labels. By bypassing the often unpredictable algorithms of streaming music services, Groover empowers artists to directly reach out to industry professionals, significantly amplifying their chances of recognition and success.

In the competitive music world, Groover serves as a leveling force, especially for new and independent artists. It offers a unique opportunity for these musicians to have their music heard and to receive constructive feedback. This is crucial for artists who may not yet have the backing of major labels or the promotional machinery to feature on top playlists on services like Spotify or Apple Music.

Moreover, Groover extends its services to musicians seeking to sync their music with different media outlets, offering opportunities that transcend standard music streaming sites. This could range from getting featured in background music for video streaming services to being part of the soundtrack on internet radio stations.

Groover is redefining how artists interact with the music industry. It’s not just about providing a platform for streaming music; it’s about offering a comprehensive suite of services that cater to the needs of artists in the digital age. From aiding in music discovery to providing a channel for direct communication with industry professionals, Groover is revolutionizing the way artists share their music and connect with their audience.

—

In September of 2023, Spotify for Artists announced its brand new marketing tool called “Showcase”. In their own words, Showcase “lets you promote the releases you want, when you want, to the listeners you want to reach”.

But what is Showcase? How does it work, and how can it benefit your music career?

In this guide, we’ll cover all these topics and a lot more to ensure you make the most out of Showcase. Let’s dive in 👇

1. What is Spotify Showcase?

Spotify recently unveiled its brand-new promotional tool called “Showcase”.

In a nutshell, Showcase is a mobile banner appearing at the top of the Spotify homepage. It displays anything you want, from a classic album to a recent release.

It appears as a sponsored recommendation, similar to what you might see on Instagram:

Best of all, you can personalize the headline message to fit the release you are promoting! Want to promote an upcoming show? Why not write “On tour”. Or if you’re building hype for an upcoming release, you could write something like “Releasing music soon”.

Based on your campaign settings, Spotify will automatically push your Showcase to likely listeners. These could be “old” listeners who haven’t listened to your music recently, or new listeners who have never checked you out yet.

Showcase comes amid a study from Spotify showing that “catalog” tracks and charting more than ever:

Spotify defines a “catalog” track as a track that is older than 18 months. After that time, Spotify considers it has entered the artist’s catalog.

With that in mind, Showcase was created to give artists and their teams more flexibility around which tracks they can promote, when and to whom.

—

Do you already have tracks on Spotify but they’re not getting the attention you hoped for? ⬇️

—

2. How to Set Up Spotify Showcase

So, how do you go about setting up a Showcase campaign?

As of time of writing this article, Spotify Showcase is only available to artists established in the US.

However, this will certainly evolve in the future, and you can consult this page to check the full list of available markets (more on those later). If you are indeed in the US, then head over to the Showcase tab in Spotify for Artists. There, you will be able to configure and launch your own Showcase campaign.

Practically, a Showcase campaign starts at USD100. Every time someone clicks on your banner, a portion of your budget is spent. This runs for a maximum of 14 days, or shorter if your budget is already spent.

Spotify also excludes anybody who has already listened to your release from the campaign.

3. When Should You Use Spotify Showcase?

Here are a few ways you can use Showcase to promote your music:

Don’t have any upcoming releases for a while? Why not promote an old track to re-engage with your listeners.

Do you have a “seasonal” track (i.e. a summer banger or a Christmas song for example)? Use Showcase to push it in front of people.

Wanna the celebrate the one-year anniversary of your first single? Why not leverage Showcase to do it!

Have the streams of a recent release started to drop? Why not give it a boost with a Showcase banner.

| Read also: How to get more streams?

As you’ve probably understood, Showcase is not only about “which” tracks you promote. There’s also the question of “who” you will promote them to.

Luckily, Spotify has made things simple, splitting the potential audience of Showcase into 3 groups:

Audience engagement, i.e. “active listeners”. Here, the Showcase banner will be pushed in front of your active audience. You can dial in the precise mix of super listeners, moderate listeners, and light listeners.

Audience reactivation, i.e. “old listeners”. In this case, Showcase will target listeners who used to listen to you but have fallen off.

Audience growth, i.e. “potential new listeners”. Finally, you can also decide to trust Spotify to target likely new listeners of your music.

It’s also interesting to note that you can only target one market (i.e. one country) per Showcase campaign.

4. How do you Measure the Effectiveness of Spotify Showcase?

As with all marketing campaigns, the idea is only as good as the result.

So, what kind of metrics does Spotify Showcase offer you?

Spotify breaks down these metrics into 3 buckets:

Amplified listeners: these are already active listeners of your music who decide to stream your release after seeing the Showcase banner.

Reactivated listeners: listeners who had stopped listening to your music, but became active listeners once again following the Showcase campaign.

New active listeners: these are new listeners who had never listened to your music. Following the Showcase campaign, they started streaming your music for the first time.

5. Availability and Eligibility

As mentioned previously, Spotify Showcase has only just been rolled out. This means it is currently only available for artists based in the US.

Furthermore, you are also limited in the number of markets you can target.

A notable exclusion to mention here is the Asian market: you cannot target any listeners from Asian countries with Showcase. The full list of markets is available here.

Finally, another eligibility criteria relates to the number of streams. Indeed, you need to have had at least 1,000 streams in the past month to create a Spotify Showcase campaign.

Conclusion

That’s all for this guide on the new Spotify Showcase tool. We hope you have found it useful, and that we answered any questions you may have had.
