VOG Gets his Music on a TikTok Playlist After Using Groover

par Mackenzie Leighton

We had the pleasure of talking with VOG, a tenacious artist who has carved out his own path! Inspired by Kygo, Avicii and Kungs, he has managed to find his own musical identity and naturally combines electro, pop and tropical house in his music. He landed his music in one of the biggest playlists on Tik Tok after using Groover – an impressive journey full of hard work and a love for music!

I love it! You can feel the young and dynamic team behind Groover, trying to make a place for themselves while doing a great job!

VOG, can you tell me about your musical project? What led you to produce your own songs?

Hello 🙂 I have a somewhat “atypical” career path for a composer/artist since I started with a business degree after high school, then a year abroad in Thailand working in tourism and in New York working in real estate. When I came back to France in 2014 (I was 22 years old at the time), I decided to change my life…I spent a year at the Eanov School, a school of sound engineering and music production, to learn the basics and be able to take off. Then, I spent thousands of hours as a self-taught musician, to perfect the art of creation and find my unique style. The more you progress and meet new people, the more you realize how many people are needed to bring a project to fruition. From the beginning, I wanted to be able to manage 100% of the production, which includes recording, composing, arranging, mixing and mastering. Then came the communication, marketing, distribution… And that’s where I was lucky enough to find the perfect team to accompany me and develop my project on these points which take a lot of time, require a lot of human and financial resources.

What are your inspirations? What kind of music do you listen to?

I have an idol that inspired me to take the first step: Kygo. He too started from scratch and managed to make it into the top 10 in the world. I have to listen to all kinds of music to stay up to date, to know what’s going on in the world. So I usually listen to about ten new tracks every day, which are mainly related to “pop”.

What does a day in the life of VOG look like?

Before or during lockdown? ahah, I confess it changes everything! I’ve been working 6 days a week or even all week, on a 50-70h basis, for almost 6 years. Afterwards, when you do the job you’re passionate about, you always want to “work”; this motivation and desire are always present, because you have the thirst to move forward on this new music you’re working on. I’m lucky to have a studio that looks like a fighter plane cockpit, but that can easily accommodate several people, so it’s a nice place to brainstorm and develop our ideas.

Recently, your title appeared on TikTok, what has that brought you?

Coffee Break is starting to explode on TikTok, and that’s great news. I discuss daily with my team about how we can focus our forces on this media, which in my opinion is a great opportunity for any track that meets the expectations of the platform’s users. It’s so funny, and satisfying to see so many people filming on one of your creations, you can’t even imagine!

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned in the last few months?

I’ve learned to take my time. Confinement allows me to completely rethink the way I work, and even live. You remain a kind of “machine” that needs many attributes such as sunshine, good nutrition, sports, etc. These are things that I used to do less of before, and now I have been doing them daily for the last 2 months. These inputs are really beneficial to my concentration and efficiency, therefore I work less, but better! ;)

What advice would you give to young developing artists?

Selon moi, trois points sont nécessaires pour parvenir à nos fins en tant qu’artiste :

In my opinion, three points are necessary to achieve our goals as an artist:

  • Never give up, always believe in yourself, even if it’s the most complicated, because most people won’t understand you…
  • Surround yourself well, and I say “well” because that’s the most critical point. There are all kinds of sharks and bad people in our community. You can’t do it on your own, but you can’t work with the first person who reaches out to you either.
  • Work like crazy, but keep a healthy lifestyle: do sports, eat healthy, socialize!

What are your plans for the coming year?

I’m especially excited about a big track that we want to release by the beginning of June: Lying For Love! Very summer and clubbing oriented, it’s the one I prefer among my latest creations. 😀

And finally, what do you think of Groover?

I love it! Especially your cordial and cool way of replying by email. You can feel the young and dynamic team behind Groover, trying to make a place for themselves while doing a great job! You always come back to us when we don’t expect it, and it’s very pleasant 😉
